Event: Cornwall Angel Network workshop

Early-stage Cornish businesses are being given the opportunity to sharpen the tools needed to secure angel investment at next week’s Cornwall Angel Network Investment Showcase Readiness Workshop.

The free workshop (Sep 9), aimed at high-growth start-ups preparing to raise angel investment, will guide founders through the essentials of pitching successfully to investors.

Sessions will cover everything from the early stage funding landscape and Cornwall Angel Network’s pitching process to building a compelling pitch deck and avoiding common pitfalls.

The Cornwall Angel Network is led by Falmouth University and is supported by the British Business Bank, Cornwall Chamber of Commerce and the UKBAA and exists to foster connections between ambitious founders and forward-thinking investors, with the aim of boosting the region’s economy.

A private members’ group made up of exited founders, high net worth individuals and sophisticated investors, the Network runs regular private showcase meetings where businesses can pitch directly to angel investors. The Network is a Shared Prosperity Funded part of the Launchpad Futures Programme and does not retain a success fee on investments made by its angels.

The readiness workshop will also act as a gateway for businesses hoping to present at future showcases. Cornwall Angel Network looks for strong founding teams, scalable business models, evidence of traction and a clear Cornish connection, with sustainability and ESG principles high on the agenda.

The workshop comes ahead of the Network’s first anniversary celebration in October at the Lost Gardens of Heligan. During that time the Network, led by Dennis Lucan, has established a strong membership of angel investors, and secured investment in several companies. A new website and LinkedIn page will be launched ahead of the event so the business community can get the latest information.

The open invitation celebration event will include a founder’s exhibition featuring a number of companies that have pitched over the last year, information about successful investments the network has already facilitated, and guest speakers including Rod Beer, MD of the UK Business Angels Association and Professor Emma Hunt, vice chancellor of Falmouth University, highlighting the Network’s achievements in creating a diverse and dynamic investment community for Cornwall.
